I am currently an Applachia CARES Americorps member serving at Clinch Powell Resource Conservation and Development in Rutledge, TN. Clinch-Powell RC&D is a rural community development organization serving Claiborne, Grainger, Hancock, Hawkins, Union, Hamblen, & Jefferson counties. Our mission is to serve the needs of our communities, to protect our environment, and to enhance the quality of life of the people of the area through leadership, education, volunteerism, and action. The RC&D is a 501(c)(3) nonprofit organization.
The Appalachia CARES program is a grant funded AmeriCorps program through the Corporation for National and Community Service. The program is a school and community-based service-learning program which promotes COMMUNITY, ACTION, RESPONSIBILITY, EDUCATION, and SERVICE as program cornerstones. Appalachia CARES engages its members in direct service with youth and community volunteers in primarily rural areas in middle and east Tennessee counties in partnership with community-based organizations and local schools. The overall goal of the program is to impact participants through service-learning.
This Blog is part of my Service learning project. It is to promote awareness and teach people about environmentally friendly practices. It will contain energy saving tips and things that people and organizations are doing around the community to lower their carbon footprint.
